About Us
Our Story
Hey everyone, thank you so much for helping our Superman. I’m Uncle JJ; let me tell you a bit about Silas’ story.
Silas was born with a rare heart defect that required he have a new heart not long after birth. Doctors at Vanderbilt in Nashville Tennessee put him on the heart transplant list & we prayed daily for a miracle. Drs let his mother take him home & enjoy what short life he had. After nearly 2 years with no heart, doctors had given up hope & Silas had fallen ill. The family was called in to say our goodbyes… They were taking Silas off of life support.
Silas’ mother (my baby sister) met with a group of prayer warriors that made the long drive from North Carolina to pray with Silas during his transition. They gathered in the hallway & requested I join, but I was angry. Understand that i had spent everyday of the last two years praying to god with no answer. If there was a god, I was convinced that he hated us. I was lost.
I’ll never forget the look my baby sister gave me when I told her I didn’t want to pray with them. She scolded me without ever speaking a word… so I joined (out of fear for my life lol). But I had no hopes. I had lost all hope & all faith. Just into the prayer a nurse ran into the hall, pulled my sister aside & told her that his heart was on the way from North Carolina. It had followed the prayer warriors here. That day I witnessed a miracle & I’ve seen one every single day since then.
Silas took well to his new donor heart although he needs anti rejection medication that causes his body lots of different sicknesses. He was later diagnosed with chronic respiratory failure. He beat his heart issues with a donor heart but this would be different. His lungs were giving out on him & doctors can’t place him on a heart transplant list if other organs such as the lungs are bad. So when this ticker goes, Silas time here with us is over.
We fight the respiratory failure with oxygen all day, and a ventilator. Silas has a tracheostomy so it’s hard for him to talk. He also has a feeding tube that we use for most of his nutrients although now that he’s growing he loves to eat by mouth.
Doctors gave Silas a life expectancy of just 8 years old but by gods grace he turns 18 in January 2027. Against all odds.
When Silas was 14 he was admitted to a hospital and his mother was by his side like she always was. She fell asleep in her jeep in the parking lot & never woke up. Her carbon monoxide levels were twice that of a lethal dose. She got cold, started the jeep and fell back asleep. We just pray that she went peacefully.
I’ll never forget breaking the news to Silas. He called his mother several times that morning and he didn’t understand why she wasn’t answering. I told him what happened and we fell apart. I promised him that I would get him out of that hospital and out of states custody.
After a year of fighting dcs and two states, we got him home. He’s happy, he’s healthy, and he’s with family but we miss her everyday.
Im a single uncle, my children are both grown and I never thought I would be raising any other kids. The fight to get Silas home took everything I had. I sold my car, I closed my business, I moved to be with him and I didn’t come home until he was released. We’ve been home several years and we’ve made a life for our self but it’s hard alone.
I made this website for Silas to sell his tee shirts. He loves arts and crafts and tee shirts are a great way for him to make a small bit of income. He turns 18 soon and he wants to work but mentally he’s not able and physically he can’t run for more than a few min before his oxygen begins dropping. This website is a great way for Silas friends to help support him along his journey in life.
Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. If his mom were here, she would thank you too.
God bless you all.
